Release of Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

The American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) was released in March, 2015. The course is designed to train healthcare professionals, public safety personnel and other professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.

Within the healthcare portfolio and for healthcare customers, BLS will replace the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers (CPRO) program. However, CPRO will remain available for aquatics or other customers whose employees need the CPRO certificate as indicated in state regulations and mandates.

An online bridge for current instructors of CPRO, Emergency Medical Response and Lifeguard Training is available. For more information on the program, please visit the BLS page. Be sure to check out the Instructor Training and Program Information sections for details on the course, how to access the online bridge and more.
